We are wrapping up our 2024 production season and looking forward to some winter rest. We may be hiring again for folks to start next season in March/April.
Our farm would not be what it is today without the many, many people who have worked here over the years. Some have moved on to start their own successful farm operations, both near and far. Some have been “cured” of their farming aspirations and have moved on to successful careers in other fields, many of them food related. Many have become life-long friends and community. If you’re reading this, it’s possible our next crew member could be you!
Each season, we hire 2-4 employees to make up our farm crew. Crew members are involved in all aspects of production and marketing of our crops, including seeding, bed prep, transplanting, weeding, irrigation set-up and maintenance, staking and trellising, mulching, harvest, herb processing, and selling at farmers markets. An interest in learning about what we do and why we do it is a big plus.
Benefits include:
Hourly wage based on experience: $15-$16/hr
Plentiful fresh veggies, herbs and flowers to take home
Daily guided yoga for mind / body awareness & sustainability
Opportunity to learn about successful, small scale organic farming
Opportunity to learn about herbal medicine with access to our classes, workshops and daily on-farm education thru our hands-on work
1 week paid vacation equivalent to regular weekly schedule
Potential bonuses
Applicant qualities we look for:
Strong work ethic, dedicated, positive attitude
Quick learner with attention to detail and self-motivation
Good communication and ability to take constructive feedback with a smile and learn from it
Ability to work with a team and individually while maintaining a fast pace and efficiency
Physical and mental stamina and healthy endurance, ability to lift 30-50lbs comfortably and spend long periods of time kneeling, squatting or bending over
Must be able to commit to the entire season thru November
While previous farm experience is not required, we do look for folks who have worked at outside jobs before, and have the stamina and resilience to work hard in all kinds of weather conditions while maintaining a positive attitude.
A working knowledge of medicinal plants, botany or general plant structure is not essential but highly valued.
We do not have on farm housing; folks often carpool from Hillsborough, Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Durham or Mebane.
While we don’t offer health insurance, our manager is a skilled body worker, yogi, and herbalist, always available to help you be at your best whether you feel a cold coming on, or helping with body mechanics and daily stretching to avoid injury. Each day we have a group yoga session before lunch. Just one of the many perks of working with us!
